RV-6, RV-7, & RV-9 Cowling

We produce high-quality engine cowls that are lightweight and have excellent strength characteristics. Our cowls not only make the aircraft look fast, they also make it go fast. Our latest design stems from decades of development focused on maximizing performance,
minimizing drag, and delivering a quality product to the aircraft builder.

The exterior surface of our cowls contain very few pinholes requiring little to no filling before finishing.

Our core material is a modern three dimensional fiberglass core material that increases strength and imported from the producer in Europe. We do not use the inferior and cheaper Chinese knockoff product available on the market. We do not use a traditional honeycomb core which have a paper covering and over time can delaminate from the heat, oil and exhaust fumes that seep through the outer fiberglass covering in other cowls.

Our cowling for the RV-6, RV-7, and RV-9 is designed for use on 320-360 engines with or without extended hub props. We produce options for both forward-facing or updraft induction systems. Our cowls are designed to accommodate our plenums which minimize cooling drag and aid in cooling. The round inlets of our cowls are matched to our plenums.

RV-6/7/9 Updraft Long Cowl:

Used with updraft inducted O-320/IO-320 engines without an extended hub prop or with updraft inducted O-360/IO-360 engines with an extended hub prop. Cowl dimensions are:

• Length from firewall to prop flange: 36 5/8"
• Rear width at firewall end: 39 1/2"
• Upper half height at firewall end: 12 3/8"
• Lower half height at firewall end: 22 3/8". Note that this height includes the 4 1/4" deep scoop that runs down the center of the cowl. The main body of the lower cowl at the firewall end is 18 1/8" high.

RV-6/7/9 Forward Facing Long Cowl:

Used with forward-facing IO-320 engines without extended hub prop or with forward-facing IO-360 with extended hub prop. Cowl dimensions are:

• Length from firewall to prop flange: 36 3/4"
• Rear width at firewall end: 39 1/2"
• Upper half height at firewall end: 12 3/8"
• Lower half height at firewall end: 21 3/8". Note that this height includes the 3 5/8" deep scoop that runs down the center of the cowl. The main body of the lower cowl at the firewall end is 17 3/4" high. (excluding the scoop)

RV-6/7/9 "Shorty" Cowl:

Used with updraft inducted O-360 or IO-360 engines without an extended hub propeller and utilizing the Vans airbox. This cowl is the same length as the standard Van's cowl. Cowl dimensions are:

• Length from firewall to prop flange: 34 5/8"
• Rear width at firewall end: 39 7/8"
• Upper half height at firewall end: 11 7/8"
• Lower half height at firewall end: 21 5/8". Note that this height includes the 4 1/8" deep scoop that runs down the center of the cowl. The main body of the lower cowl at the firewall end is 17 1/2" high. (excluding the scoop)

All cowl kits include:

• Top and bottom cowl halves
• Three polished aluminum CNC inlet rings
• Oil door
• When ordered with a plenum they also include the neoprene and sealant to connect the plenum to the cowl.
